as a teacher and a parent i feel well informed on autism, also the diet without wheat and feeding your child organic foods the first 18 months is also something ive learned about

but when you mentioned spread out the shots, can you be more specific? are you talking all the shots or specifically separating the MMR?

i thought we were following a plan such as that but now Im not sure- maybe you can email me if you get a chance...

We have spread ours out for just that reason. Most of the statistics are for "healthy" children. Since both of mine had congenital problems (hypothyroid for M and hypospadia for N) I felt it was worth the extra co-pays to spread them out.

We have been to three different pediatricians trying to find the right fit, which has been a pain, but so worth the benefit. I still get the feeling I am "bucking the system" when the doctor's office wants to bunch them together and I insist on them being separate. I am willing to be the weird mom.

I have seen studies that show it's linked and I've seen studies to show its not. For every study that shows one, another study shows the opposite. I just think that each family should know that the theory is out there. Truce got no less than 12 shots around 18 months. Not long after that was when we started to notice changes in him (speech, eye contact, etc.) Linked? I don't know. I do know that's a lot of medicine to put into a 20 pound baby.

I have always suggested that parents with babies ask their doctor to spread out their shots. What does it hurt? If you doctor is so against that, are you with the right doctor? So, you pay a couple of extra co-pays. $40 verses $40,000 a year doesn't seem like much of a choice.

Thanks for the information. I have often wondered how a parent of a child with autism feels about vaccinations, but it never seems appropriate to ask. Thanks for being open and honest.
